An undertrial prisoner lodged at Jaipur Central Jail attempted suicide on February 25 alleging that he had been falsely implicated, a senior official said on Thursday.

Arun Jain (30) facing trial in two criminal cases was rushed to the SMS Medical College and Hospital where his condition was said to be stable.

Jain, hailing from Nagaur, has been lodged in the Jaipur Central jail since 2010.

On February 25, he had cut his left arm with a sharp-edged weapon.

In a note before attempting suicide, Arun had written that he had been falsely implicated by the Nagaur police in a fake currency racket, and the Jaipur police had filed a case against him under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

"My family members are being harassed...I can not give hard time to my mother and sisters... I have not done any 'gaddari' (treachery) with my country," he added.

A case of attempt to suicide was lodged against him at Lalkothi police station, the official said.
