Chennai: The Madras High Court has ordered the closure of all courts in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

The Chief Justice has asked the police to file a reply in the High Court on who ordered and implemented the lathicharge on lawyers.

There are shoot-at-sight orders in place across the state against those trying to damage public property.

On Thursday night police entered the High Court campus to evict a small group of protesting lawyers.

Reports say while most of the lawyers want to settle matters by legal means, a fringe group continues to indulge in violence.

Another group of lawyers have filed a Public Interest Litigation in the High Court.

The Supreme Court will also hear a petition on February 27

The Chief Justice has condemned the violence.

Also importanly the SC is not very sympathetic to the Madras High Court or the protesting lawyers.
