HASSAN: In a heart-tendering incident, a leopard mauled to death a 13 year-old boy in Santemarur village of Arkalgud taluk early on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Nanjunda. The leopard was reportedly roaming in the village for about a fortnight and entered the farmhouse, where the child was sleeping, through a window and attacked him, killing him on the spot.It dragged the boy’s corpse out of the house, when his parents had gone out for work in a nearby field. When the boy’s father, Nanjappa, later returned home for water, he noticed blood stains on the bed when he informed his wife and other villagers. After a two-hour search, a party of fifty villagers with weapons traced the body finally, which was found half-eaten near a bush not far from the house. Villagers blamed forest officials for the incident. Meanwhile, forest officials have set up a cage in a field to trap the big cat.
