BANGALORE: Councillors in the BBMP council meeting on Wednesday alleged that the Palike Legal Cell had failed to protect the interest of the civic authority.JD(S) leader Padmanabha Reddy, narrated an instance: Vishwa Bharati House Building Cooperative Society had handed over a CA site to the BBMP when they formed a layout in Avalahalli. But, after people created fake documents and were trying to claim ownership of the land, the case was filed in court. But the advocate had not attended the case and BBMP had lost the land.Reddy alleged that the Palike’s advocates neither attended the case nor conducted cross-examination. They do not argue and file interim application on time. Palike pays Rs 3,000 per case to advocates and some of them join hands with opponents.Byrasandra councillor N Nagaraju pointed out that the Palike was unable to construct a bus stand on 11th Main in Jayanagar 4th Bloc due to a stay, while the property belonged to the civic body. In his reply, commissioner M K Shankarlinge Gowda said,  “I reviewed the cases and found there were 5,500 cases pertaining to the BBMP in court. At least 570 cases have no para-wise remarks. There is a need to strengthen the cell and ensure that the civic body’s interests are protected.”
