MADURAI: Around 500 advocates affiliated to the Bar Associations of Madurai, Theni, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram and Dindigul took out a rally at Theni on Thursday, reiterating their demand to safeguard the interests of Tamils on the Mullaiperiyar issue. TN Advocates’ Association president S Prabhakaran led the rally from Bommayakoundanpatty to the State Bank of India. Prabhakaran alleged that the police were filing false charges against people fighting for their rights and condemned the Kerala government for failing to implement the orders of the Supreme Court in the issue.Prabhakaran further alleged that the Kerala government was planning to construct a new dam only to protect the encroached lands in the catchment area around the Periyar dam. He also sought for an economic blockade against Kerala and informed that all advocates affiliated to various bar associations had planned a procession at Chennai to reiterate the cause.Vice-president of the association M Muthuramalingam, president of the Madurai Bar Association Dharmaraj and several other advocates took part in the protest rally.A financial establishment owned by Keralites came under attack at Allinagaram during the rally.
