CHITRADURGA: Minister of Energy, Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Shobha Karandlaje promised farmers that the district will be declared drought-hit if the dry spell continues in future and relief works will be speeded.Taking note of the information given by the Agricultural Department officials, she said: “Steps have been taken to grow alternate crops which can be grown with less water and from winter dew. By this alternate cropping farmers can reduce their loan burden.”After hoisting the flag at Science College ground on occasion of Independence Day, Shobha said: “The state government is working in a great way, there is no problem with law and order and the financial position of the state is very sound.”“In recent times the state has achieved several firsts by delivering agricultural budget, subsidy for diary farmers, low interest agricultural loans and other welfare measures, which has been lauded by the Planning Commission, RBI and other financial institutions,” she added. “We are rich in natural resources, experienced and well educated scientists, skilled labourers who have the charm of taking the state to prime position in the country in future, by working hard state government is augmenting their work,” said Shobha.“With good rains in all parts of the state, reservoirs are brimming, this has reduced the burden of farmers and power production,” she said. “Many people have laid down their lives to liberate our country from the clutches of British rule, now it is our duty to protect it selflessly. Youths who constitute more than 60 per cent of the population should pledge in this regard,” she said.Seven higher primary schools, 16 high schools, police, home guards, NCC battalions took part in the march past. Freedom fighters B Siddappa, N Bheemappa, Kantha Reddy, B Basappa, Srikantappa and meritorious students were honoured.
