Land Acquisition: Farmers file written objection

HUBLI: Hundreds of farmers of Mundargi taluk filed a written objection with the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) office in Dharwad on Monday opposing land acquisition for the proposed Posco India Limited steel plant at Halligudi village of Gadag district.
Farmers, who came in a group, led by Mundargi taluk Bhoo Svadheena Virodhi Horata Samiti, urged the government to withdraw the land acquisition process immediately. They urge officers to not misguide the higher authorities as well as public representatives. They have said in the objection that the state government should leave up the idea to acquire fertile land where they were getting two crops in a year even without irrigation. The farmers were not ready to sacrifice their lives for multinational companies or capitalists.
