Kushboo case: No bail for Maxim editor
SC has refused to grant anticipatory bail to the editor of Maxim for publishing obscene photographs of Kushboo.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to grant anticipatory bail to the editor of English magazine Maxim, Sunil Mehra, facing allegations of publishing obscene photographs of popular Tamil Nadu film actress Kushboo through superimposition.

A bench comprising Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice R V Raveendran declined to entertain the petition filed by Mehra challenging the Madras High Court order dismissing his petition for anticipatory bail.

Kushboo had filed a criminal complaint against Mehra for defaming her and damaging her reputation by publishing her photographs, which were in fact not hers. The body was somebody else's and the face was that of the actress.

The Trial Court had issued summons to Mehra who challenged the summon order and sought quashing of the complaint by filing a petition under section 482 CrPC in High Court.

The apex court directed him to approach the High Court as it was not inclined to entertain the petition for anticipatory bail.
