Kolkata: Kolkata is fast becoming India?s new IT hub.

The city is planning a new convention centre in Rajarhat town on the eastern fringe, where all IT companies will set up their base.

The Rs 2,500 crore project will be spread over 100 acres (leased for 99 years from the state government) and will be India?s largest convention centre.

The project will be financed by Unitech, a company well known for connecting corporate and academic talent to develop technical projects.

Planned over five years, the centre will will include a five-star hotel, service apartments and even a mini golf course.

It will be managed by one of biggest convention center operators around the world - JWT Marriott.

The convention centre has sent the land value in Rajarhat skyrocketing ? over Rs 2 crore for an acre.

However with companies like Unitech snapping up land in Rajarhat, real estate players are frantically planning big-ticket investments of their own.

What's your reaction?
