Kizhakkambalam robbery case: CB to seek custody of accused

The Crime Branch, investigating the Kizhakkambalam robbery case, will seek the permission of the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate(ACMM), Bangalore, for the custody of Vedimara Thajudheen, who is undergoing trial in the Bangalore bomb blast case.

The Crime Branch will first approach the Kolenchery Judicial First Class Magistrate for the arrest warrant before seeking the custody of Thajudheen at the Bangalore ACMM.

With the Kolenchery Judicial Magistrate denying the narco-analysis test of Thadiyantavide Nazir, the investigation will be conducted around Thajudheen as the bomb was made at his house in Vedimara near Paravoor.

“Thajudheen is one of the key conspirators in the case after Nazir. The bomb used in the Kizhakkambalam robbery case to scare off the locals was made at Thajudheen’s house. From the investigation, we came to know that it was Sabir and Nazir who made the bomb with the assistance of Thajudheen, who is well-trained in the art of bomb making,” a CBI official said.

K P Sabir, key accused in the case, has been absconding and is suspected to be hiding in Pakistan occupied Kashmir(PoK).

Three unidentified persons from Tamil Nadu assigned by Imam Ali, who died in an encounter a few years ago, are yet to be traced. During the identification process, Thadiyantavide Nazir was recognised by the local residents as he used to visit Thajudheen’s house on a regular basis.

The Crime Branch also confirmed that the robbery was plotted and planned at Thajudheen’s house.

However, investigation officer Biju K Stephen said that they would approach the Bangalore court to seek the custody of the accused.

“We will approach the court within two weeks. But the trial of the Bangalore bomb blast case is going on. Since the accused would have to be transported to another state, the chances of obtaining his custody are slim,” Biju said.

On June 20, 2002, a group of nine persons led by Thadiyantavide Nazir attacked jewellery owner Mathew John and his two children around 7.30 pm and snatched the suitcase containing gold ornaments. The gang later threw bombs made of glycerine nitrate at the local people who came to the rescue of Mathew.

The incident took place as Mathew and his sons were returning home after closing down the jewellery shop.
