New Delhi: Who would have thought that India’s highest court would be moved over a kiss?
However, such is the reality.
After much hue and cry and arrest warrants being issued against her and Hollywood actor Richard Gere, actress Shilpa Shetty on Monday moved Supreme Court seeking a stay on the criminal proceedings initiated against her in various police stations in the kiss row.
The matter has been listed for hearing on Tuesday by an apex court bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan.
Shilpa has sought quashing of criminal cases registered against her at Jodhpur, Ghaziabad and Munawar (Halwar) police stations.
Gere's kiss on Shilpa's cheeks during an AIDS awareness programme in Delhi last month had sparked off a huge row with moral police taking to streets, burning the actors’ effigies and demanding strong action against them.
Based on the complaints, an arrest was issued against the Hollywood actor by a Rajasthan court.
