New Delhi: BJP leader Kiran Bedi on Wednesday called for regulated debates during electioneering and a system to keep a check on candidates making tall promises.
She said the Election Commission should look at the way campaigns are held which cause "inconvenience to the voter who has no voice".
"Look at the noise pollution, look at the air pollution, look at the traffic pollution, all these are polluting and can be very well regulated. There could be regulated debates, neutral umpires and systems to check if anybody is making a tall promise," Bedi said.
Speaking at the Hero Mindmine Summit in New Delhi, she said: "I am looking at campaign which is law abiding. Currently there is no prosecution, no enforcement. There are false promises, defamations and the result of such cases come after five years."
Citing example of West Bengal and Bihar where local elections are coming up, Bedi said: "You will see now that life would come to a standstill for months together in West Bengal and Bihar, schools will close and it will be chaotic and money would be spent."
