New Delhi: Rajya Sabha was adjourned for 40 minutes on Monday as strong smell of chemicals wafted through the House.
Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat first adjourned the House for 10 minutes till noon and then again for half-an-hour.
"There is a smell of kerosene," said Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Choudhury as she was replying to a question on anganwadi workers.
Shekhawat tried to calm down the members saying "it (the smell) has become less and now I think it is alright".
After asking the marshal to find out reasons for the smell, Shekhawat adjourned the House first for ten minutes and then for half-an-hour.
Parliament staff was seen spraying perfume in the House to offset the smell.
