Bengaluru: Even as the power crisis deepens in Karnataka, senior JD(S) MLA YSV Datta threatens to resign during the Assembly session on Friday after facing flak from people in his constituency.
Angry over acute power crisis in his constituency, Datta said the problem should be addressed immediately.
While waving his resignation letter in the Assembly, he urged the Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa to intervene after facing immense pressure from the people of Kadur constituency in Chikkamagalur district. Speaker, however, asked him not make such drastic comments.
Meanwhile, the power minister now guarantees power at least from 6 pm to 10 pm in the evenings to ensure students' examination preparation is not disrupted.
The MLA said he is too scared to switch on his cell phone during visit to his constituency due to power crises.
He said, "At least don't divert power that comes to our area."
The onslaught came on Thursday when the Assembly discussed how power supply was affecting students in particular as they are not able to prepare for their upcoming State Boards and entrance examinations.
Power Minister DK Shivakumar has informed the state Assembly that there will be an uninterrupted power supply between 6 pm and 10 pm and again between 6 am and 9 am to enable the students to study.
Last month, state witnessed a person in the coastal Karnataka region being arrested because he called up and shouted at the Power minister for the frequent power cuts in his area.
At present Karnataka is facing nearly 30% shortage in its production.
