A woman has reached Uttar Pradesh police in Lucknow alleging that she was raped by a man, whom she was later forced to marry after being coerced into changing her religion. In her complaint, the victim said that later her tormentor deceived her into aborting her five-month-old fetus that was conceived as a result of rape.
According to a report by Times of India, the woman is a Lucknow resident. She met the accused Saifuddin, a Karnataka resident, in Bahrain, where she worked for about seven years.
The woman told police that she and Saifuddin grew close while working in Bahrain, where he raped her one day.
“I lodged a rape complaint there. While the matter was under investigation, Saifuddin and his family members persuaded me to withdraw the complaint after I became five months pregnant as a result of the rape,” TOI reported citing the woman’s complaint.
She said that the accused and his family pressured her to change her religion from Hindu to Muslim and get married to him.
“On February 13, 2024, I was married to Saifuddin according to Muslim law. In due course, Saifuddin tricked me into visiting Mumbai for a medical consultation, and I was admitted to a hospital where the doctors secretly aborted the five-month-old fetus,” she alleged.
Besides Saifuddin, the woman also accused his former fiancée and his family members of harassing her for dowry. She said she was taken to Saifuddin’s house in Karnataka’s Beedar, where his former fiancée, Monika, his elder brother, and other family members tortured her mentally and physically.
Police have, meanwhile, registered a case into the matter for dowry-related harassment against all accused.
Police are looking for Saifuddin, who remains untraceable, the report said.
