Kalabhabhishekam was conducted at the Lord Ayyappa Temple on the third day of the Chingam poojas on Sunday.
As part of the kalabhabhishekam, Thantri Kandararu Rajeevaru performed kalabhakalasa pooja in the presence of Melsanthi G Balamurali at the nalambalam at 11.30 a m.
The procession carrying the kalabhakalasam led by Thantri Rajeevaru and Melsanthi Balamurali was taken out by circumambulating the Sreekovil.
Kalabhabhishekam was performed on the idol of Lord Ayyappa during uchcha pooja at 12.30 p m.
Sahasrakalasam was the other special ritual held at the temple.
Udayasthamana pooja, padi pooja and pushpabhishekam were the other rituals held . The temple will be closed on August 21 evening, marking the conclusion of the five-day Malayalam new year celebrations, after athazha pooja and Harivarasanam.
Temple to Reopen on Aug 27 Evening
Sabarimala Devaswom executive officer Sankaranarayana Pillai said that the hill shrine would be reopened on August 27 evening for the four-day Onam celebrations.
“On the first day of Onam, on August 28, sadya would be offered by Melsanthi Balamurali,” he said.
Thantri Rajeevaru would light the traditional lamp and place all the dishes and sweets on a plantain leaf in the name of Lord Ayyappa at 11 a m, marking the inauguration of Onam sadya offerings for the devotees.
Sanakaranarayana Pillai said that the sadya would be offered on all the other days of the celebration.
Laksharchana, sahasrakalasam and kalabhabhishekam would be the special rituals that will be held on the four days. The temple would be closed on August 31 evening after athazha pooja and Harivarasanam.
