A journalist working with the Hindi daily `Navdunia' died of cardiac arrest on Saturday evening at Begumganj near in Raisen, with his friends alleging that he was not provided timely treatment at the local government hospital.

The death led to protest by local journalists who blocked the Sagar-Bhopal highway for nearly four hours on Sunday morning.

Rajendra Giri (48) complained of severe heart pain last evening, following which he was rushed to the Begumganj government hospital.

But the journalists accompanying him alleged that he lay there unattended for nearly an hour, with the doctor on duty failing to diagnose his condition.

A senior doctor later asked him to be shifted immediately to Raisen district hospital, where the doctors declared him `brought dead'.

Local mediapersons on Sunday put his body on the Sagar-Bhopal highway for over four hours, demanding action against doctors.

The blockade was finally lifted when authorities promised a prompt action. Additional Superintendent of Police Mukesh Vaishya said that statements of the eyewitnesses were being recorded.
