New Delhi: Golf's first Major and the most revered tournament in the sport, the Augusta Masters tees off on Thursday.
For Indian fans there's an extra incentive to watch the Masters as Jeev Milkha Singh has been paired with world No. 1 Tiger Woods for the first two rounds.
If the fourth place finish at the CA Championships earlier in the year gave him the self belief that he belongs to the top of global golf leaderboard, his third straight year at the Augusta Masters offers him the opportunity to be Asia's first Major champion.
As he gears up to tee off his Masters dream with Tiger Woods, Jeev will determined not to allow the situation overwhelm him.
"I'm excited about that and looking forward to it. It'll be great to have the opportunity to play with Tiger and it'll be interesting. I'll be a little nervous but I'll try to make the most of it and enjoy it. I'm playing well and we'll see what happens," says Jeev.
While Jeev will savour the chance to rub shoulders with the world No. 1, Tiger has already tasted blood with a win this year and seems to be feeling better than ever, even with Phil Mickelson snapping at his heels with his eyes on the number one ranking.
"It feels the same. It feels like it did at any other major championship. The only difference is there's been a longer duration between majors for me. The preparation, the feeling I have right now. It feels the same. I was surprised how fast the feeling came back to me at the match play. Like Stevie says, 'It feels like we haven't left. It feels the same.' I said, 'Yeah, it feels good doesn't it.' You know, preparing for this event and coming here it feels the same just like any other major championship,:" says Tiger.
"Everyone out here is striving to be No. 1 in that world ranking, and it would be an incredible feat given, again, who is currently No. 1 and has been -- Tiger's been No. 1 for however many years," says Mickelson.
So clearly, as the world will watch with bated breath over the next four days, whether Tiger gets his fifth green jacket, the Indians would no doubt be rooting for Jeev.
