In men's section, Russia's Mikhail Youzhny opponent Jan Hernych of the Czech Republic pulled out after only nine points in the first game of the match because of a back injury.

The world No. 13 later said that he too was suffering from a back pain.

"I really wanted to play today, actually. But I have a little pain in my back, so one more day rest is good," Youzhny said .

He too is in good form and has featured in finals of three tournaments this year.

Tommy Robredo, of Spain, also advanced to the second round after beating Sergio Roitman, of Argentina, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
