Several students chose to quit ITI even after qualifying to pursue something else. Sometimes, they leave to focus on entrepreneurial ventures, such as starting their own companies, rather than completing their degrees. In many cases, people complete their degrees but quit while working. In the same situation, a man quit his job after studying ITI to help his father in the weaving business.
This young man named Tejas earns about Rs 40,000 per month by weaving beds and chairs with thin plastic wire. Tejas stands by his father and weaves beds with plastic wire. He is from Koyyalagudem village of West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. He did ITI and was working for a company. Later, he quit his job due to a minor accident and has been making plastic beds for 40 years. He continues in this profession along with his father.
While talking to Local 18, he said this plastic wire would be imported from Maharashtra from the Kokunur factory. The plastic wire will be bought at the rate of Rs 400 kg. Two kilograms of plastic wire are required for one bed. The cost to weave per bed is Rs 800. A bed woven with plastic wire will be sold in the market for Rs 1500. It is said that this bed will not spoil for 10 years even if it is kept in the sun or the rain.
He further said that the beds made of this wire are of very good quality. Also, sofa seats, lorry seats, tractor seats and chair seats are specially woven with plastic wire. He said, “If we want to make any special items, we will weave those items with plastic wire.” Tejas added that he is getting income through this to run his livelihood. He further added that his monthly income is around Rs 40,000.
