Indian origin Jazz pianist Vijay Iyer among 24 MacArthur 'Genius' award winners for 2013
Iyer and 23 others fellows will each receive $625,000 over the next five years from the John D and Catherine T MacArthur Foundation.

Indian origin Jazz pianist and composer Vijay Iyer was on Wednesday named among 24 MacArthur 'Genius' award winners for 2013. Iyer is one of 24 Americans recognised this year for 'extraordinary originality and dedication in their creative pursuits and a marked capacity for self-direction.'

Iyer and 23 others fellows will each receive $625,000 over the next five years from the John D and Catherine T MacArthur Foundation.

Meanwhile, dancer-choreographer Kyle Abraham was among the 13 men and 11 women officially named MacArthur fellows.

Other than Iyar, one more pianist Jeremy Denk, has been included in the list for his exemplify creative thinking and varied intellectual and artistic pursuit.
