New Delhi: The Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday condemned the audacious terror attack at Pathankot Air Force Station in Punjab.
A visibly annoyed Singh said, "This is an unfortunate incident and would like to stress that any aggression towards us will receive a befitting reply from our side."
While praising the security forces for neutralising the terrorists, he said, "We are proud of our security agencies for restricting their (terrorists) movement inside the base. We are keeping a close watch on the situation."
On the context of suspected Pakistan’s role in the terror attack, he said, "Pakistan is our neighbour, we want peace, but any terror attack on India will get a befitting response. We believe in cordial relationship with our neighbour. It is unfortunate that despite our effort to maintain better relationship with our neighbours, such terror attacks are happening in India."
Around 3.30 am, heavily armed terrorists, with huge quantity of explosives, made their way to the air force base from back side of the premises. So far four terrorists were killed. Sources said, efforts are to keep one of the terrorists confined to a limited area so that no collateral damage is done at the technical area of the air force station.
Meanwhile, authorities said that the helicopters and other equipment at the Air base are safe. The intelligence had alerted about a possible terror attack in the area, officials said.
It is the second big terror attack in Punjab within a year after three militants stormed a police station in Diana Nagar before being eliminated after an encounter in July.
The attack comes days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's unscheduled visit to Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala raised concerns over the national security.
