India to go regional at Cannes
It's not just Bollywood at Cannes. A large contingent of popular regional actors and directors will also be there.

New Delhi: Thirty-five Indian filmmakers have come together to sell movies in various regional languages at the Cannes film festival scheduled later this month.

Until now, the thrust at the prestigious festival has been to promote only Hindi movies made in Mumbai.

The filmmakers, for the first time, will try and sell regional movies.

The like includes Tamil superstar Rajnikanth’s blockbuster Chandramukhi and director Mani Ratnam’s Lajo.

There will also be an effort to sell India as a shooting and post-production destination. "Cannes is the place to show that we're more than just Shahrukh Khan," Bollywood producer and director Sunil Darshan said.

Adding to Indian contingent will be Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, who will promote her yet-to-be released film Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, produced and directed by Karan Johar.

The film is not an official entry at the festival but is expected to be screened for select distributors and critics for promotion ahead of its release in India and abroad.

Bollywood action hero Ajay Devgun will help sell director Vishal Bhardwaj's Omkara, an adaptation of Shakespeare's Othello.

Omkara features Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Bipasha Basu.
