New Delhi: While the promos of Prakash Jha's 'Satyagraha' hint at its striking similarity with the Anna Hazare movement, its actors insist that the film is not based on the popular movement that took place in the 2011. "It is not based on Anna Hazare's movement at all. It is a fight of a single person against a corrupt system," says Manoj Bajapyee.
Speaking to IBNLIve.com, Bajpayee reveals that his character is both the antagonist as well as the comic relief of the film. "Balram Singh, the character that I play in the film, is plain evil but his antics are such that he appears to be comical. He is actually the comic relief of the film," laughs Bajpayee.
Manoj Bajpayee is now a regular in almost all of Prakash Jha's film and in most of his films he plays the antagonist. So how different is his role in 'Satyagraha' from the rest? "'Rajneeti' had negative shades to each of the character; no character was plain white or black. Here in 'Satyagraha' I am the shrewd, cunning guy and the rest are all positive characters."
The actor also states that any film based on public movements cannot be termed as a film on Anna Hazare. "How else does one protest in this country? If you look at it, almost all protest movements follow a similar pattern. You stage dharnas, you go on a fast- so yes, 'Satyagraha' takes examples of many such movements in the film. But it is very different from Anna Hazare's movement."
Manoj who had a successful stint on television in the 1990s when he featured in the popular TV series 'Swabhimaan' is open to working on TV again. "I'd be happy to work on TV again, either in fiction or as a host on some reality show-depends on the kind of work I get. But please don't expect me to participate in a show where they will keep me locked in a house for three months. I can't stay away from my daughter for that long. It would be impossible," adds the proud father of a two and half year old girl.
The actor is also all praises for fellow actor and friend Nawazuddin Siddiqui. "He is a friend and it is great to see him succeed. He has struggled a lot and although the recognition has come a little late in the day, I am glad that he finally getting his due."
Having being part of some memorable films like 'Satya', 'Shool' and the recent 'Gangs Of Wasseypur' and worked with very talented directors in his career, is there any role or film in the recent past that Manoj watched and wished he was a part of? "As an actor I am greedy, so wanted to be a part of all those movies I wasn't a part of. Why limit yourself? I'm greedy to do all kinds of roles."
