KOCHI: Nothing could stop Rekha from getting married this Sunday to Pratyush, not even the fact that her hubby-to-be was hospitalised with broken leg at the Specialists’ Hospital here. The families and friends of Rekha and Pratyush gathered at the hospital to witness the wedding ceremony. At 3.30 pm, Pratyush tied the knot with Rekha. Though the marriage was decided earlier, fate took a toll on them when Pratyush met with an accident on August 25. He broke two bones in his right leg. For Pratyush and his relatives, his marriage was a far-away dream. However, Rekha’s determination made the marriage happen. “Rekha’s decision helped realise our union. I am thankful to God to get a life partner who is not afraid of setbacks in life,” said Pratyush, after the wedding. Rekha, a coir worker, believes that a disaster could have befallen anyone including herself. “It is good to be with your life partner when he or she needs you the most. What if the accident had occurred after the marriage?” Rekha asks. She believes that if today was a bad time, tomorrow would be a good one, which had made her to take the most crucial decision in her life. When Pratyush, a welding worker from Pallana met with the accident, his relatives had asked him to postpone the marriage. It was Rekha’s decision that changed everything. The hospital authorities informed that another surgery was also needed. It would take another 20 days before he could be discharged. “It would require another couple of months for his recovery,” said staff nurse Darish T. The hospital authorities were also instrumental in making the wedding a memorable moment in their life.
