Lucknow: Activists of right-wing group Hindu Yuva Vahini barged into a private home and dragged a couple to a police station in Meerut.
The activists alleged that the boy and girl were from different religions and that the boy was trying to convert the girl.
A video available with CNN-News18 shows that activists barging into the house and dragging the couple out.
The Hindu Yuva Vahini activists even alleged that the house was rented by someone else who had sublet the place. The police did not take any action against the activists but let the couple go.
This comes despite Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath warning to anti-Romeo vigilantes to not take the law in in their hands and take unilateral action like this.
The organisation was founded by Adityanath in Gorakhpur while he was MP representing the region and was associated with the Gorakhpur Mutt. Prior to his becoming chief minister, the group was primarily limited to the region is the eastern parts of the state. This is perhaps the first time they taken action in Western parts of the state.
