HYDERABAD: A division bench of the High Court, comprising chief justice Madan B Lokur and justice PV Sanjay Kumar, on Thursday issued notices to the central government on a writ petition filed challenging the Centre's action to carve out a sub-quota of 4.5 percent to minorities namely Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Zoroastrians (Parsis) out of the 27 percent reservation allotted to Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in education and public employment.
The court granted no stay on the petition filed by R Krishnaiah, president of AP Backward Classes Welfare Association but directed the central government to file a counter affidavit and posted the case to January 23.The central government, vide office memorandum dated December 22, 2011, carved out a subquota of 4.5 percent for socially and educationally backward classes of citizens belonging to minority communities, out of the 27 percent reservation allotted to OBCs.
