Guj HC transfers Ishrat Jehan case to SIT
The High Court has rejected the Jehan family's demand for a CBI probe into the killing of Jehan.

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court on Thursday transferred the Ishrat Jehan encounter case to a special investigation team (SIT ) appointed by the Supreme Court. The court rejected the demand for a CBI inquiry and transferred the case to a Supreme Court-appointed SIT headed by former CBI director R K Raghvan.

Until now another special investigation team, comprising three police officers, was investigating the case.

The Gujarat High Court’s decision comes in response to petitions filed by Jehan’s family.

In 2004 Mumbai girl Ishrat and three others had been gunned down by the Gujarat police for allegedly plotting the murder of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.

The court has also directed the state government to make necessary orders within two weeks to transfer the case to SIT. The court has also told the SIT to submit its report within three months after it begins investigations.
