New Delhi: In an effort to save the endangered vulture-sized bird, the Centre will soon introduce 'Project Bustard'.
The great Indian Bustard was declared 'endangered' as a result of its declining population due to hunting and agriculture development.
Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), A K Varma said that a Central High-Powered Committee had met in October last and decided to implement the project in semi arid areas of states such as Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
A final round of meeting would be held next month during which the project guidelines would take a final shape, he informed.
The project is to be implemented in January next year.
Varma said that a three-day seminar on Bird Ecology and Conservation will be organised from November 12.
It coincides with the birthday of renowned ornithologist Salim Ali.
