THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to implement the Chengara rehabilitation package formed by the previous government.Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that Revenue Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan had been entrusted with the responsibility of executing the package. The Cabinet also allotted Rs 15 crore for the development of Bangladesh Colony in Kozhikode. The government has decided to construct 170 twin houses for the 340 families residing there. The Cabinet also decided to allot one more higher secondary batch in select government and aided schools in eight districts: Kollam, Idukki, Kannur, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kozhikode.The families of those who were killed in lighting or snakebite would be provided a compensation of Rs 1 lakh each. Earlier the amount was Rs 35,000. Those who lost their house completely in natural disasters would be provided Rs 1 lakh and for partial destruction Rs 35,000 each. The Cabinet sanctioned Rs 2 crore for the Irrigation Department to take precautionary measures in the coastal belt of the state which are facing severe threat of sea erosion. During the trawling ban between June 15 and July 31, the fishermen will be given free ration and for providing relief to the fishermen who are facing severe difficulties due to monsoon, the government has sanctioned Rs 10 crore. Three control rooms would be opened for helping Malayalees coming from Yemen; Kerala Houses in New Delhi and Mumbai and in NORKA.
