Government school gets new infrastructure

Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Corp. company, and its supplier partners have dedicated a Rs 4,076,685 ($73,000 USD) two-story addition to Z P High School, for classes six to ten, in the village of Gowdavally. The addition will provide five classrooms, a science lab, and a library.  The company itself has contributed Rs 1,675,350 ($30,000 USD) towards the funding for the project.

The addition will be used to educate students who attend the school from  nearby villages and the Association Saikorian’s Project Krushi, a nearby home for disadvantaged children in Hyderabad. Previously, the high school did not have enough classrooms and had to teach students outside in corridors. The lack of classrooms was acute during the rainy season and affected student attendance. The school addition project was executed by Engineers Without Borders (EWB) India-Hyderabad Chapter and Infotech Enterprises Ltd., Pratt & Whitney’s engineering services provider in Hyderabad, and was financially supported by other partners, including the Hamilton Sundstrand division of United Technologies Corp., QuEST Global Engineering, MTU Aero Engines, Belcan, Jaisara Tooling System, and Ralph Noyes, a local private donor from the United States. Representatives of the EWB- Hyderabad chapter provided technical assistance to complete the project.

Besides a science lab and a library, an eLearning Center is also being set up that includes audio visual facilities for distance learning sessions and high-quality science and math course materials. Project Krushi was established in 1995 by the Association Saikorian as a home for children from difficult circumstances who are housed, educated and integrated with the main stream of the society.  Every effort is made to counsel and restore the children to their parents/relatives.  Those children who cannot be restored to their parents/relatives for various reasons are retained and educated, with the ultimate objective of making them self sufficient and responsible citizens.
