New Delhi: A young man who saved several lives in 2008 by detecting a live bomb is now forced to live on streets of the national capital. On September 13, 2008, five synchronised blasts rocked Delhi in which 63 people were killed. But the death toll could have been much higher had the young man not identified the bombers and detected a live bomb.
For his bravery, the man was awarded by the President and has been guarded by a Delhi Police constable around the clock given the threat to his life.
The bravery award winner said, "I gave police the description of the two bomb planters on the basis of my inputs and they arrested them."
His medals are his only prized possession as he spends night out in the open near Hanuman mandir. The promise of a house has been forgotten by the government. The child shelter where he used to stay has turned him out because he is now 18-year-old.
He said, "President announced free education and house. But no one has given me a house yet."
His parents are from Maharashtra said their son's brave act has been forgotten.
His father said, "The government should atleast give my son free education, house and bear his expenses."
Social activist Sunil Kumar said, "We have taken the matter up with the Chief Minister and local MP. They are yet to respond."
