'Gondolas Missing': Rain Brings Relief From Heat In Delhi But Waterlogging Triggers Traffic Chaos
As Delhi struggled with waterlogged roads, more rains have been predicted for the national capital over the weekend with the arrival of the monsoon in the national capital.

Delhi woke up to waterlogged roads and flooded streets on Friday as the national capital witnessed incessant overnight rains. While Delhiites breathed a sigh of relief from the heatwave, it faced new challenges with cars getting submerged on roads and huge traffic jams.

Delhiites took to the social media, posting videos and photos of the state of roads in Delhi.

Former cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra posted how “Delhi felt like Venice”, adding that he missed his flight due to a 2-hour-long jam. “Good morning, Delhi. Feels like Venice. Gondolas Missing. Also…missed my flight thanks to 120 min jam on the ring-road,” Chopra posted on X (previously Twitter).

With roads inundated, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also hit out at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. BJP Councillor Ravinder Singh Negi was seen rowing an inflatable boat amid severe waterlogging as a symbolic protest against the Delhi Government. “All PWD drains are overflowing. They didn’t get it cleaned ahead of Monsoon. This has led to waterlogging…Vinod Nagar has submerged,” Negi said.

Meanwhile, it was the same story at Minto Road, which is infamous for getting submerged every monsoon. Delhiites posted videos of cars submerged in water on Minto Road, with many complaining about how it’s the same every year.

“Delhi’s Minto Road needs divine intervention,” a user posted on X. ” I think the Minto Road bridge was made only to be submerged in water,” another user posted.

More Rains Over The Weekend

As Delhi struggled with waterlogged roads, more rains have been predicted for the national capital over the weekend with the arrival of the monsoon in the national capital.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast on Thursday had said that parts of Delhi are likely to witness isolated heavy rainfall on June 29 and 30 (Saturday and Sunday).
