CHENNAI: The IPL fever has not spared even the Golu celebrations this year. At the seventh edition of Parle's Golu Galatta, there were numerous rows of Golu dolls of the Chennai Super Kings, among the usual Ram Leela, Chettiar and Thalayatti Bommais and statues of gods and goddesses. This year, Parle is vying for a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records by having over one lakh dolls at the venue, Island Grounds. Inaugurated by the Group Product Manager of Parle Mayank Shah, the event also saw familiar faces from the small screen. Officials from the Guinness Book of World Records were also present to take a look at the dolls. Most of the dolls, neatly decked on tiers of racks covered with white cloth, have been contributed by various schools from across the city. Kaligi Ranganathan Montford School, Perambur, had an elaborate display of Golu dolls, with the theme, ‘Incredible India’. They had lined up dolls representing the various dances of the country, along with some of the most common modes of transport. Their Idli Kadai setup caught everyone’s attention. The Gopuram-like arrangement of the dolls by another group was an innovative endeavour. Chennai Public School’s large idols stood out amid their neat arrangement.
