A 35-year-old goldsmith was arrested by the Mahankali police on Monday for duping one of his customers.
According to police, Manjunath of Manikantha silver store in general bazaar collected silver from one of his customer Maha Veer Jain and promised to make some ornaments. He failed to return silver, following which Jain filed a complaint with the police.
The police said few months back, Jain gave silver in bulk to Manjunath and asked to carve few ornaments out of it. As per the agreement, the ornaments were supposed to be returned to the owner in two months. However, despite many requests Manjunath delayed returning the ornaments. “On Sunday, Manjunath called Jain and told him that he was facing severe financial loss and wouldn’t be able to return his silver. Jain on Monday approached police alleging that he was duped and sought help in getting back his precious metal,” said inspector S Ranga Rao.
Based on the complaint lodged by Jain, the police registered cases against Manjunath under section 420 (cheating) and 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) under IPC. The accused was arrested and produced in the court. The court sent him to 14 days judicial remand.
The inspector said they would also file a petition in the court seeking police custody of the accused to question him in connection with this case.
