Panaji: A major part of slain British teenager Scarlett Keeling's organs required for a third autopsy in Britain is missing, her mother Fiona Fiona MacKeown's counsel said on Tuesday.
MacKeown will soon arrive in Goa to take possession of her daughter's remains, her lawyer Vikram Varma told reporters, adding that a major portion of the organs was destroyed by the laboratories.
"A substantial portion that is critical for a proper forensic examination has been destroyed by the labs here. Only small portion of the organs might be handed over to MacKeown when she arrives here," Vikram Varma said.
Varma informed media that while extracts of the liver and portions of the kidney had been completely destroyed, only the uterus could be salvaged.
Varma and MacKeown last year said Scarlett's organs were missing, forcing the Goa government to clarify that the organs were extracted during the two autopsies.
Scarlett's body was found in a half-naked state at the Anjuna beach here nearly a year ago. The police initially said it was a case of suicide. But the victim's mother launched a campaign for justice which attracted international spotlight and exposed this tourist destination's ugly underbelly.
MacKeown has maintained that drug mafia was involved in her daughter's murder. She even named Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik's son Roy as a suspect - a charge the minister has refuted.
