BANGALORE: Public Relations Council of India in association with Bangalore University (BU) hosted an international conference on glocal communication in the city on Saturday.The conference saw deliberations by more than 100 academicians and students who debated issues affecting glocalisation in the country today via presentations and case studies.‘Glocalisation’ is a term used to describe the localization of global content to appeal to the local population. Speaking at the inaugural session, BU Vice -Chance llor N Prabhu Dev said,“Glocalization is the way of the future, we live in a world of paradoxes. Global brands today are studying the localisation of their products in order to appeal to the country consumers.” He cited the example of McDonalds which has successfully introduced local flavours to its product line which appeal to the Indian consumers. Commissioner of the Bangalore Development Authority Bharath Lal Meena stressed the need for self restraint and regulation by the media. “Media today focuses on negative stories and people blindly accept the story without bothering to verify. This kind of power is dangerous,” he said.On the theme of the conference he stated that the process of finding the perfect mix between global and local content is the most important aspect of glocalization. The conference also sought to explore the concept by various case studies like Facebook in India.
