New Delhi: Though almost everyone associated with ‘Cocktail’ has clarified that it’s not on the same lines of ‘Love Aaj Kal’, still the feel of the film says something different. Apart from Diana Penty, everything looks the same and if one imagines Giselli Monteiro in place of Penty, then it might look like an extension of ‘Love Aaj Kal’.
Probably Imtiaz Ali is the reason behind such similarity who has penned ‘Cocktail’ and ‘Love Aaj Kal’ both. The names also seemed to be borrowed from ‘LAK’; Meera was Deepika’s name in ‘LAK’.
Homi Adajania was roped in as the director after the story was finalised. With a mix of friendship, love, oodles of trendsetting fashion statements, and topped with a soundtrack of chartbusters like ‘Tum hi ho bandhu’ and ‘Daaru desi’, the film has a great buzz among youngsters ahead of its release.
The story revolves around Gautam (Saif), Meera (Diana) and Veronica (Deepika). Gautam is an incorrigible flirt, while Meera is a simple girl whose husband has cheated her. Veronica is the third friend who is a careless party animal. Dimple Kapadia and Boman Irani will feature in supporting roles while Randeep Hooda is doing a cameo in the film.
Apparently, Saif Ali Khan was not the first choice for the film, director Homi Adajania said to IANS, “Saif was not the first choice. Imran was supposed to do it but he was not sure if he wanted to do it at that point of a time.”
Pritam’s music has generated enough buzz about the film and it is likely to have a good opening, but the real question is ‘will the enthusiasm sustain for more than one week’.
Though Saif is among the prominent actors of the rom-com genre but his appearance couldn’t hide his age anymore. His comic timing always comes to his rescue and ‘Cocktail’ promos have thrived on it only, but doing this for more than two hours is a tough deal.
It’s an entirely different film than Homi Adajania’s last film ‘Being Cyrus’, so his capability of handling a light story will also be under scanner.
