Fresh land case filed against Sadananda Gowda

A fresh complaint was registered in the Lokayukta Court on Wednesday against former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda for alleged illegalities in allotment of six acres of land to an educational institution. Chief Secretary S V Ranganath, Principal Secretary (Revenue) Ashok Kumar Manoli, and five others were also named in the complaint.

According to complainant C R Nagaraj, the state identified 48 acres of land at Giddadakonenahalli in Yeshwantpura hobli under a Central government-sponsored programme for economically weaker sections, and allotted 910 plots to landless people.

In 2003, Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) issued a preliminary notification for land acquisition for Visvesvaraya Layout. However, before the final notification was sent to the residents, the BDA had transferred four acres to Basaveshwara Little Flowers Educational Society and six acres to Buddha Education Society.

Following this, a writ petition was filed in the High Court, and the court in 2008 declared the land transfer illegal.

Then the educational institutions and the BDA filed a special leave petition before the Supreme Court, but it was turned down. Again they moved a writ petition in the High Court seeking to set aside the land for the educational institutions.

In his complaint, Nagaraj said the accused, however, managed to get a HC order in their favour by misrepresenting the facts. The then BDA secretary M V Vedamurthy had also stated in a report that the land was “legally” acquired for a BDA layout.

In 2011, the land allotment to Buddha Education Society was approved by the Cabinet headed by Gowda Cabinet.

Judge N K Sudhindra Rao posted the case to October 17 for orders.
