KOCHI: The Citizen for Security Scheme, aimed at ensuring police-public participation in dealing with natural disasters and security threat, was inaugurated as part of ‘Safe Kochi Secure Kochi’ programme here on Friday. After inaugurating the function Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said the Police Department has plans to make Kochi more safe and secure.The Police Department has changed its mode of operation and it has adopted more advanced technology like that in the West to make policing more effective, the minister said.“But this is not complete without the cooperation of the public,” Thiruvanchoor said.The Citizen for Security Scheme will ensure the security of the investment of the people. “Today majority of the foreign companies and NRIs invest their money in Kochi. So with the assistance of public and organisations we can make life more secure in Kochi,” Thiruvanchoor said.The minister said that similar programmes in line with ‘Safe Kochi Secure Kochi’ will be launched in other parts of the state.The government has plans to frame a law to make women feel more secure. A meeting has been called on June first week to draft the Bill in Thiruvananthapuram. Various women NGOs and representatives of Women’s Commission have been invited for the meeting, he said.Excise Minister K Babu, State Police Chief Jacob Punnoose and Benny Behanan MLA spoke.
