HYDERABAD: Five more Rythu bazaars and 90 extension vegetable stalls will now be able to sell vegetables at colonies which are far away from Rythu bazaars in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts. Presently, there are nine Rythu bazaars across the two districts.“National Horticulture Department, with the help of state department of marketing, is going to set up five rytu bazaars and 90 extension vegetable stalls with a budget of Rs 6.7 crore,” said PS Pradyumna, chief executive officer of Rythu bazaars. This would help some farmers become self-employed and residents to buy fresh vegetables, he added. The need for more Rythu bazaars was felt due to the rising population in the city. “The strategy is to set up stalls where we do not get space and set up Rythtu bazaars where we get enough space,” Pradyumna said.  The proposal to set them up was started two months ago. The department has been working on getting land and setting up infrastructure for the new Rythu bazaars. “We need minimum 1 acre land to set up a Rythu bazaar in the city but we could not get that. So we have decided to set up vegetable extension stalls that can be removed any time,” he said.He added that the marketing department officials and farmers will run the Rythu bazaars and stalls with the price being decided by the department. The bazaars will charge Rs 1 extra for first six months to recover the investment. “Tough norms will be followed in the selection of officials and farmers,” he said. The extension vegetable stalls will be a boon in places where there are no Rythu bazaars. It is mutually beneficial for small farmers and colony residents, said Erragadda Rythu bazaar estate officer C Vijay Kumar.K Narayana Rao, a small farmer and vegetable-seller from Ranga Reddy district said, “I sell my vegetables at Mehdipatnam Rythu bazaar, But as most of the time I do not get space to sell vegetables, I sell them in front of the bazaar. But with the new bazaars coming up, I can sell my vegetables there and make reasonable money.”  In some areas like RK Puram, Kukatpally, Mehdipatnam, mobile Rythu bazaars are present but there is a need for Rythu bazaars in areas like Ramanathapur, Vidyanagar, Nizampet, Basheerbagh, Himayathnagar, MLA Quarters, Nallakunta, Banjara Hills and Secunderabad. There are no vegetable markets in many colonies of Rangareddy district.
