The members of the district units of Karnataka Rajya Raita Sangha and Hasiru Sene blocked the national highway near Hosmani Siddappa Circle and picketed the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Haveri on Monday demanding the state government to waive crop loans availed from the commercial banks.
More than a thousand farmers took part in the agitation led by farmer leader Ramanna Kenchellar.
They demanded the state government not wait for the Union government’s help, but waive the loans on its own as farmers are reeling under the drought.
Kenchellar alleged that the district administration had totally failed to tackle the drought.
