TIRUPATI: Finding fault with the delay in Polavaram project works, Communist Party of India (CPI) state secretary K Narayana said that party will not be a silent spectator if the government resorts to stop the project works citing regional conflicts, conflicts between contractors and other issues as causes.Speaking to the media at the hunger strike camp organised outside the municipal corporation office here on Friday as part of the nation- wide stir against corruption, hike in prices and retrieval of black money from foregin banks, Narayana observed that with the completion of Polavaram project, the state can save 20,000 TMCs of Godavari water without letting it into the sea.He said that diversion of Godavari water to the Krishna river with the help of the Polavaram project will facilitate irrigation water to the backward Rayalaseema and Telangana regions.Obstruction of such project works is nothing but doing injustice to backward areas, he added.Narayana, demanded the government to do justice to the farmers and Girijans who have been displaced due to the project by providing them with rehabilitation packages. He added that if the government does not do so, the CPI will fight on their behalf. Speaking on corruption, Narayana said that bringing awareness among people is the main weapon to eliminate the social evil.Though all political parties, social activist Anna Hazare and other people's organisations are constantly making efforts in this direction, the Union government is not in a state to tackle the issue effectively, he said.
