CUTTACK:Former MLA and veteran social worker Srikant Panda passed away following protracted illness at his Shelter Chhak residence..

CUTTACK:Former MLA and veteran social worker Srikant Panda passed away following protracted illness at his Shelter Chhak residence here late on Thursday night. He was 80 and is survived by wife, a son and a daughter. Born in 1931 at Kalyani in Balasore, Panda was a two-time MLA from Cuttack.  He had been associated with social work and involved with various organisations. He was the driving force behind transformation of Janaki Nath Bhawan, the ancestral house and birthplace of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, into the Netaji Birthplace Memorial Museum. He also had the unique distinction of touring the world on a bullet motorcycle in 1957. His last rites were conducted at Satichoura on Friday.
