KOCHI: Ernakulam will become the first district in the country to complete the survey of the district’s status on the financial inclusion on September 6.Seventy-five percent of the work to find out the reason which keeps people away from using banking services is over. The survey has been completed in rural areas while the work in some urban areas is yet to be over.The district was selected by the Reserve Bank of India to counduct the survey.A meeting of the representatives of various banks and Kudumbashree was organised here the other day to review the survey work.The aim of the survey is to find out the problems which force people to shy away from going to banks despite having accounts. The survey would help find solutions to them and encourage more people to use banking services. A programme to enrol at least one person from a family in a bank was successfully completed in 2007.The expenses of conducting the survey would be borne by different banks in the district. The banks would contribute their share which would be collected in a dedicated account.Union Bank of India general manager Mayank Mehta presided over the function.
