HYDERABAD: The city has something for people of all age groups and tastes this Ashtami on Tuesday, the eighth day of the Navratri celebrations. From concerts to classical recitals and dandiya nights, the city seems to have woken up to a new life in contrast to the recent slumber of bandhs and strikes. Devotees looking forward to participating in the Ashtami puja celebrations can take part in Shonkhodhoni (Conch-blowing)/Uludhoni competitions at the Hyderabad Bangalee Samity (HBS) at the Ramkrishna Math Marg, Lower Tank Bund Road at 11 am.The Bangiya Sanskritik Sangha (BSS) at the Keyes Girls High School, Secunderabad will also be conducting similar celebrations from 10.30 am.At the Ramkrishna Math, Chandi Puja will begin at 7 am. Connoisseurs of classical dance can drop in at the HBS at 7.30 pm for an Odissi dance performance by Giridhari Nayak, one of the chief disciples of Odissi exponent Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra.Shilparamam at Madhapur will be staging a Bharatnatyam performance between 7.30 p.m and 8.30 pm. Folk arts enthusiasts can look forward to the Bathukamma and Chirutula Bhajana performances by artists from Warangal at Shilparamam.And of course, there is always the dandiya raas and garba raas to infuse festive energy into the mundane routine. To sway to some percussion music by the Mumbai-based band The Challengers, head to the Namdhari Gaurav Navratri Utsav at the Imperial Gardens near the Sikh village, Secunderabad from 7 pm onwards.Single entry passes cost Rs 500 whereas family entry pass costs Rs 1200.You can also head to the Sikhwal Cultural Association at Mallareddy Gardens for more dandiya fun. While at it, do not forget to check the varied food-stalls offering delicious treats ranging from snacks and fast food to candy floss and ice creams.Top it up with a paan of choice and colour the town red in the next three days.
