HYDERABAD: The Traffic Police campaign against drunken driving has evoked mixed response from the public. While a few are happy with the intiative and feel that this is a good step to curb accidents, a few others are sceptical and have raised concerns about bribes. The police, however, seem to be working in right earnest. In fact, they have caught 160 people last week alone for driving in an inebriated condition. This weekend, as they did last time, the police teams will be conducting checks at all the important places -- pubs, bars, restaurants etc in posh as well as rather low-key areas. What's more, of the 160 accused, a majority have been convicted.DCP (traffic) GVG Ashok told City Express that a good number of those caught were in the age group of 20-30."No woman has been caught driving in an inebriated condition," he clarified.Citizens posted their views online, some on Facebook and a few others on blogs. In one such blog about the traffic police, neitizens posted diverse views, some praising the cops and a few others airing cynical views. While the limit for Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) is 30 mg per 100 ml of blood, when checked by the breath analyser the accused were found to have alcohol content between 60 mg and 120 mg, the DCP said. The accused will be booked under Section 185 (a) of the Motor Vehicle Act and will be produced in court. They have to pay up a fine of Rs 1500 for a two-wheeler and Rs 2000 for a four-wheeler. Their licences will be with the court for two months.
