CHENNAI:  A DMDK functionary was hacked to death by a gang at Kotturpuram on Monday. Previous enmity is suspected to be the reason. Sources said A Harikrishnan (35) was the division secretary of the DMDK. Around 4 pm, when he was returning home on his two-wheeler on Ambedkar Street in Kotturpuram, a gang armed with weapons came in an autorickshaw and waylaid him near a bridge. Harikrishnan, who was grievously injured, was taken to the government general hospital in Royapettah, where he died. The Kotturpuram police registered a case and are investigating. Toddler Dies After Slab Falls on Him A two-year-old boy died when a concrete slab from a building under construction fell on him at R K Nagar. Sources said, S Deepak was with his aunt Latha, at the balcony of their flat on First Street in R K Nagar when the mishap occurred.  Deepak’s father Siva visited both of them to a hospital, where the boy died. The civil engineer of the new building and the owner have been arrested. Electrician Dies An electrician from Tondiarpet died of head injuries on Sunday after he was allegedly assaulted by man for not repaying the money he borrowed from him.According to the police Singaravelan (40), a resident of Netaji Nagar in Tondiarpet, was found on the road with head injuries near the Lakshmi Amman Temple bus stand on the Thiruvottiyur High Road. He succumbed to injuries in the General Hospital. According to police, Singaravelan had borrowed money from Seenu of Washermenpet and the two had a quarrel on Sunday. In a fit of rage, Seenu pushed him down and the electrician sustained injuries on the head. Youth Cong Demands Seeman’s Arrest The Youth Congress on Monday demanded the arrest of film director and president of Nam Thamizhar Iyakkam Seeman for supporting a banned organisation.About 100 activists of the party arrived at the City Police Commissioner’s office in Egmore and raised slogans demanding the arrest of Seeman. State Youth Congress president Yuvaraj told reporters that Seeman was consistently voicing his support for a banned organisation. Lineman Electrocuted A 45-year-old lineman was electrocuted in Koyambedu on Sunday. Lakshmanan of Vivekanandan Street in Sakthi Nagar was attached to the TNEB office in Koyambedu. On Sunday, he was repairing a transformer in Jai Nagar when he received an electric shock. He was taken to Kipauk medical college hospital, where he died. Man Killed in Balcony Collapse A 23-year-old youth was killed when a balcony collapsed and fell on him at Triplicane on Sunday. Venkat of Fourth Street in Ram Nagar was standing near his house when the balcony of a second floor apartment fell on him. He succumbed to head injuries, police said. The Ice House police have registered a case. Goldsmith finds Bomb-like Object A goldsmith handed over a bomb-like object found on the terrace of his house at Elephant Gate on Sunday. The bomb-like object had wires protruding from its sides. Sudhakaran of Wall Tax Road runs a jewellery workshop. The police are investigating whether any miscreants threw the ‘bomb’ on Sudhakaran’s house.
