CHENNAI: A 25-year-old doctor suffering from mental illness for several years, committed suicide by hanging at Muthialpet on Wednesday said the police. Inspector John Sundar told Express that Dr R Kalaiarasan of Salem district, had passed out of Stanley Medical College Hospital a few years ago.  “However, even as a student, the victim was undergoing psychiatric treatment,” he said.Recently, Kalaiarasan called two of his college friends, Dr Kasi and Dr Balamurugan, who studied with him in the college, to make arrangements for his treatment. The duo stayed in a room at Mannadi and were working in a private clinic, the inspector said. “His friends got him an appointment with a doctor at the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.”On Wednesday morning, his friends bought him breakfast and left for their clinic. On returning home, Kasi found that Kalaiarasan had hanged himself with a nylon rope from the fan. There was no suicide note, but police suspect that depression had forced the extreme step. Lawyer Attacked A 34-year-old lawyer was attacked by an armed gang as he was making his way to the court at Saidapet on Tuesday. Adi Senthilkumar, a resident of Tindivanam claims that the gang members, got down from a car chased and attacked him, inflicting cut injuries above his ear, and then escaped. He later lodged a police complaint.
