Dileep’s Plea to Access Video of Sexual Assault on Malayalam Actress Rejected by Court
The decision comes after the actor, the eighth accused in the case, moved the court asking for all evidence, including the assault visuals, to be handed over to him.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Magistrate Court in Angamaly has rejected Malayalam actor Dileep’s plea to access the video of the sexual assault on an actress as it accepted the prosecution’s argument that it could be used to defame the victim.

The decision comes after the actor, the eighth accused in the case, moved the court asking for all evidence, including the assault video, to be handed over to him.

The actress was taken around Kochi for about two hours while allegedly being molested in the car before being dumped near a popular director's residence.

The SIT probing the case had handed over six CCTV clips of the woman actor's car being driven from Thrissur to Kochi when the crime is said to have happened. Dileep's counsel had examined the video in the presence of the court on Monday.

The actor demanded that the CCTV footage should be given to the defence for further examination as a female's voice could be heard in the clips and the SIT had not investigated it properly and even failed to mention it in their report.

However, the police took a stand that the footage should not be handed over to Dileep as it could be misused. The court accepted the police's argument and said the privacy of the actress had to be protected.

According to sources, Dileep may approach the Kerala High Court to access the visuals.

The police, too, will approach the high court for a speedy trial, and is also likely to ask for a woman judge in the case. The Magistrate Court has shifted the trial to Ernakulam District Sessions Court.

Meanwhile, Sunil Kumar alias Pulsar Suni, the prime accused in the case, told the media on Monday that people like him will stay in the jail while the rich would escape punishment. The SIT had also handed over the statements of Pulsar Suni to the court.

The court had handed over to Dileep two forensic reports of mobile phones of the second and fourth accused and 187 documents related to evidence collection.
